Schapelle Corby's Sick Father Rushes To Indonesia
As if the Schapelle Corby Saga wasn't bad enough, it turns out her father is terminally ill and may not have long to live:
Mr Corby said he was distressed when he later saw news footage of his daughter begging for her freedom so she could return home and see her dying father. "The doctors had told me I only have six months to live. But since then, I've responded to treatment they've been giving me. While the damage is now done, this latest medication is keeping me around longer than they expected.
"I could have five days, six weeks, two years left; who knows? But the sad thing is, Schapelle has already lost her gran in the time she's been stuck in jail. She missed the funeral, which was very hard on her because there was no chance to say goodbye. At least that hasn't happened to her with me."
One thing I will say is that I think the Australian government is handling the situation pretty well. A lot of Aussies are freaking out on John Howard (see the comments on this post), but he's in a bit of an awkward situation. All he can do at this point is give Corby's defense team everything he can to help them. He's already let a prisoner out of jail to testify in Bali on Corby's behalf, but it's not like he's going to send MI6 in after her or anything. Australia has to let the trial take it's course and allow the Indonesian court system a chance to try Corby.
Obviously, if Indonesia does sentence her to death it will be a travesty of justice. If that happens I hope the Australian government comes out swinging. Hopefully it won't come to that.

The indonesians are a poor ancient uneducated society, they love making examples out of people especially foreigners,,, In a country where you can walk down the street and be offerred HASH(a more pure form of Marijuana) it just defies logic their whole way of thinking!

Or it could be that you're overgeneralizing (incorrectly, as well) an entire culture of people, Damo. Just maybe...

Austrillia needs nukes. Image Indonesia when they found out after makeing an example out of her by shooting her, that they all had 30 minutes or less to live before they got hydrogen bomb tipped warheads all over there major cities. But such is just a dream. I say, find out all companies that sell products from indonesia, and start boycotting them. Start hounding neighbors who still think it is a good idea to go to indonesia for vactions as they could be the next "example" of indonesian justice. Got indonesian friends? Dump 'em, don't have anything to do with them. Quit being nice to those who routinely make examples out of you. Remember this is the same justice system that didn't do squat for the bali blast. They didn't want to offend there religious monsters by doing so if memory serves me correct. Time to take offense. No more Mr. or Ms. Nice Westerner!

Wow - the level of debate really brings tears to your eyes!
Maybe we should consult Pauline Hanson to get a really intellectually rigorous statement on the case of the beauty school dropout and her supporter from Dodgy Brothers Inc.

Wow, these indonesians are fucking savages.

When I read these comments above, I can only thinks the commentators are stupid, descedant from English robbers and pirates, Aborigins killers, drug junkies, etc.
Who the hell are you? You made shit judgement for Indonesian people.

Australia has its roots well established in convict heritage. It began with the colonies mainly penal and from there it evolved to what it is today.
Australia is therefore sensitive to issues relating to convict tendencies and now judges countries that are similar to mother England. It has become a substantial world power but its social structure and behaviour are in disarray.
The leaneancy to people that break the law is a joke as is Indonesias "zebra" policy.
Drugs are pouring into the country even though now and again small quantities are confiscated at customs. You may say well it comes from overseas but the real market and craving for it is an Australian issue. Should there be no requirement for it here in Australia then these sorts of things of dealling with airport corruption would cease to exist. Australia loves ecstasy, but why? Whats so good about it? Is it a escape from the reality of our countries failure, and extreme usury making life unbearable?
Australia deals out ridiculous sentences for those that have destroyed many peoples lives through crime only to make a mockery to victims of crime. I guess the convict heritage is in Governance as is our police, criminal business people, banks that "ripp" the public off because they know they can; and not much can be done about it. Our whole social structure is about legalized criminal corporate structures that you who is reading this at the moment is also being ripped off from your Authorities. We have to survive what is unjust and those that cant adjust turn to crime and drugs. Society in Australia fails to comprehend that the system is at turmoil and the laws are a farce with corruption .
Where there is a need there always is the root cause for drug trafficking and lots of money to be made, and very fast. With speed there is a cost but who cares when you can live like a KING a Baron VON Cocaine with Sister Morphine and Australian QUEENS land heads genetically modified for hydroponic potency.
Our culture has juvenilles that KILL old ladies, rape the living daylights out of young woman, police that cant keep it together a Government that "ripps" its people of as with fuel and long Chains of micro Government to confuse all. To many branches from a corrupt tree that puts it bid in for funding to boil the melting pot. The people have no time to think because they are bickering with each other whilst the big fish screw you under a vail of secrecy.
Yes we are educated in plunder! We are educated to use tactics to trick our people into submission. We are so educated that students are taken for a ride in fees where things remain as they were 20 years ago. Try and sum up per individual the money collected with little changes over the years! Where does it all go? Remember think beyond your micro society of where you live! We are tricked by the financial sector so they can plunder the billions that belong to ordinary Australians.
Our system may differ to Indonesia but in hindsight corruption is the moral decay of all cultures. The criminal activity (under white light) and its ancestry has gained the upper hand and therefore instilled into all the corruption we see today. Drugs make it more easy for those to escape reality but the sobering reality is that it destroys the social fabric of human kinship and crime evolves from it. Some are used as a patsy to make the 6 o clock news but the confiscation is put back into circulation for its purpose and media attention brings out a jo well done.
Indonesia wants those who get tempted to extract drugs from it to be used as an example for severe punishment. If you dont crave it you will be safe.
Those who take the risk will become rich via the road of tears but some will not. Death waits near the avenue of lost souls. So be it.

We are in control. We have trained our "sniffer dogs" in cocaine detection. It takes years to perfect and our K9 squad is at work! It will detect drugs when the situation arises!
Some where down the track however the sample bag of cocaine dissapeared and was switched with common flour (or other common powder)? as the sniffing sample. Australia is so CORRUPT! The rich get richer it makes one wonder how?
Very Interesting!

Help I need to set an example! These noxious fumes will affect my health. I need medicinal HELP! I have never used POT! Yeah RIGHT! I say your innocent after all its our cultural heritage!
Who makes up ALL this info?

There are good people and bad people in every natiion. It is mediocre to generalise and stereotype people. It is also mediocre to take stubborn stands on somebody's innocence without a single piece of evidence to support it. It doesn't happen even once in a ten years time that people get arrested for posession of drugs who never ever had anything to do with drugs. Where there's smoke, there has to be a fire...It is so sad to see someone young and pretty in such situation but there are a lot of young and pretty people who made poor choices in life. Do we feel sorry and responsible for them all? Do we blame the doctors if they die of overdose?
Posted by: Annabelle | May 26, 2005 9:18:58 AM
Some people get caught but it dont mean that they have repented from there ways. They just have become more knowledgable to conceal their craving. They just perhaps become very lucky and as yet have not been caught as many repeat offenders do. Of course there are those that turn a new leaf but some will not. Its a "cancer" of society and like remission its no guarantee that it wont come back!
I dont blame doctors in any way its a social habit that is an individual choice to resort to drugs. As with the meaning of "drug pushers", its a social "bullying" practice that starts in SCHOOL who gain "Queen Bee" status that starts early from disrespect and poor upbringing or institutionalism.
It is known that those who inflict a "bullying" effect are responsible for social degradation. Its all in the beginning of good or bad family upbringing and by THOSE AROUND YOU!
These sorts of people get satuisfaction in social TERRORISM of those vulnerable AUSTRALIA IS RAMPANT WITH BULLYING! Take a searh and see for yourself all the documentation on it.
Children in Tsunami affected areas are simple beings with great hardship but still manage to smile in all this tragedy. Australia is so lucky but bus shelters are destroyed, disrespect to Police, Doctors, vandalism, drugs and spiking of night club drinks, swearing, just to mention "is just the tipp of the iceberg"etc
Australia shows many sad sides to it if you look carefully and dont turn a blind eye to it as an optimist would put His or Her head into the clouds!
People in Indonesia are friendly and thats why Australia loves and travels their but also take advantage of them.
Posted by: Casper | May 26, 2005 8:47:50 PM
I have three children that was going to Bali this coming summer but in protest and worry that what happen to the Corby Girl will happen to my kids! We all vow to never travel to Indonesia or Bali!!!
We all hope your country go's to shit, we should start by boycotting companies that sell products from Indonesia, having said that I have good Indonesian friends and they feel as we do and like us have little control over government or courts so there's no point in taking it out on them. But by all means let the Government departments over there know how we feel.

Folks, anger will not do any help-- in fact, it shows how poor and low you are as a human being. Please stop saying bad things to innocent people. Look at yourself and around you. Good and bad people exist in any society.

There is a lot of evidence against Colby, so why is everyone in Australia so hysteria that she is found guilty? I think people have confused the issues here. Corby is clearly guilty, and the sentence handed down by the Indonesian legal system is clearly unjust - by our standards. Unfortunately for Ms Corby our standards don't count for squat in Indonesia.
60 minutes has a finicial interest in her being found innocent, so you won’t hear about the evidence against Colby on their show. Instead they film Colby crying, and suggesting it could have been baggage handlers. Liz's didn't bother asking Schapelle about her marriage, when Schapelle said "I'll never be married"
Liz was silent when Schapell said "I did drugs when I was young, like 90% of Australians" This is news to me, do all young Australians experimented with drugs?
The baggage handler’s conspiracy story is idiotic. To believe that stupid baggage handlers would risk putting pot in a stranger’s luggage in Brisbane, hoping that another baggage handler in Sydney would be available at the precise moment to spot the luggage, take the dope and dispose of it without being seen, is just ridiculous and too far fetched to be believed
. For those who thinks the drugs were planted, why would anyone move drugs by air within Australia ? Load up your car or truck and move huge quantities with an almost zero chance of detection. Smuggling it via people’s luggage is just so unlikely. Cocaine or Heroin, maybe. While Australian baggage handlers have since been linked to an airport cocaine-smuggling ring, which was in operation on the date Corby flew to Bali, there has never been any suggestion or evidence of them trafficking marijuana
1.
2. For those who think why would she take marijuana to Bali when it’s cheaper there, ask why then would she take her boogie board with her, it’s cheaper in Bali. Her sister lives in Bali, and she has been there several times. Nobody has gotten it straight how many times 5 to 19. But why not buy two boggie boards and leave one in Bali; instead of dragging the thing back and forth twenty times.
Prosecutors claim the plastic bag was the same size and shape as the boogie board bag, suggesting it had been organised to fit, as opposed to being stuffed in by someone else, such as baggage handlers.
If the Australian government thinks SC is innocent because some baggage handler in Brisbane put the grass in her bag. Then why is there not a full blowed investigation into this???

Indonesia is 88% Muslim. That explains everything.

Schapelle Corby should sue Qantas and/or Sydney Airport Corporation as it was their employees that put the stuff in her bag.
I think her 20 years in prison could be worth $10M in damages. And it will be in an Australian court where she will have much better chances.
Once she has some serious money this will help get her out.
This would create an interesting situation if an Australian court found that on a balance of probabilities it was put there by baggage handlers. This will add to her case. Contradictory findings by courts in different jurisdictions.
Foreign Affairs (and web sites like yours) should put out a travel advisory on Indonesia.
They have a Draconian legal system that makes it a dangerous destination.
Everyone who is charged is convicted. That judge has done 500 cases and all were guilty. It is simply not a safe destination.

The amount of you talking about boycotting Indonesia and their products and whatnot sicken me. Has it ever occured to you people that she is actually guilty? Remember back if you will to when she was caught and she was not saying anything about being innocent. Back then all she had was a smile and makeup. This fabrication has only been invented recently. The fact is that the entire country has been influenced by the media into a fanatical state on nothing more than an overpublisicized tale. Before you foam at the mouth at such injustices, jump on your horses and declare Indonesia some country run by blood thirsty tribals you should take a step back and think about what you actually know.

she's guilty ... and true, in a culture of criminals ... she's innocent as pure heroin. we should be ashamed of ourselves, mates.
