Mr. Saksit

Mr. Saksit

After we'd received enough money to buy Tong a stereo, lights & cushions for the bar, a new computer, and a computer table, we turned our attention to other people affected by the tsunami.

The first family we helped was that of Mr. Saksit. He is a fisherman who lost his boat and his house in the tsunami. We gave him 10,000 baht ($250US) to help him support his wife and son.

This may not sound like much, but when you consider that the average yearly income of a fisherman is around 20,000 baht, the number takes on a new meaning. Hopefully he'll be able to use it to get back on his feet.

From left to right: Wit (the man who helped people fill out the government compensation forms on Koh Lanta), Mrs. Saksit, Mr. Saksit and his son, Fiona, and Jaew (Wit's sister).
