This photo has not been retouched. The water in the creatively-named Blue Lake is actually this implausible shade of deep blue.
Nobody knows what gives the water it's color. The craziest thing is that every year at the same time (around the start of winter) the lake goes from blue to a dull gray over the course of a day or two.
Where I'm from, everybody would go absolutely crazy trying to figure out the cause. Is it a type of algae? Could the fact that it's a crater lake have anything to do with the color? Maybe solar flares?
Don't ask the people of Mount Gambier. They don't give a crap. Of course, this is the same country that actually managed to lose a Prime Minister when he went for a swim in the ocean. Australians just don't get riled up about much.
